Cycling or BMX is one of the types of cycling.
BMX was born in the late 60s when motocross became a popular sport in the United States.
Motocross was the inspiration for the sport. Children and teenagers who wanted but could not participate in motocross quenched their thirst for extreme by competing on bicycles on the tracks. The tracks were as similar as possible to motocross tracks, but they were made with our own hands. Children imitated motocross as much as possible, dressing in protective equipment. The sport was named BMX.
BMX competitions among children were popular due to the low participation cost and rather simple conditions. It is easy to see why this sport is so widespread. In the early 70s, the BMX bike motocross governing body appeared in the United States. This event is considered to be the official start of BMX. After that, the sport was also introduced on other continents, among them in Europe in 1978.
In April 1981, the International BMX Federation (IBMXF) was founded and the first world championship was held in 1982, almost 10 years before the first world mountain bike championship. BMX quickly spread as a unique sporting discipline and, after a few years, had more of the hallmarks of cycling than motocross. Thus, from January 1993 BMX was included in the International Cycling Union (UCI).
