Why wax your snowboard and alpine skis? What does paraffin give? How to do it at home?
What do you need for this? Let’s get started!
Let’s start with the main question – WHY. To put it very roughly and in simple terms: paraffin creates a protective layer between the plastic and the rolling surface. Improves the sliding properties of the surface.
If you skate often, then once a week you should definitely wax and sharpen the edges.
Today we will look at how you can do this at home. We will use the available tools and tools.
We will need:
– Stiff brush
– Solvent
– Paraffin
– Iron
– Triangle ruler
– Dishwashing sponge
Start by brushing the sliding surface. Don’t be afraid to press. The brush will help clean the slide from dirt, old paraffin, etc.
We continue cleaning with a solvent. You can choose any liquid available that is capable of removing oil films and degreasing the surface.
Compare how much cleaner it is!
Next, the most difficult and more interesting thing is the application of paraffin. For this we need any old iron and paraffin wax. Iron without steam modes, set between 2 and 3 points. Look at the instructions for it, usually the temperature is spelled out there. We need 125-135 degrees.

It is better to choose a more versatile paraffin if you do not fully know what you need. You can also choose according to temperature conditions. They are indicated on the packaging. In our case, from minus 12 to plus 2 degrees.
We are waiting for the iron to warm up, then we lean against the paraffin and drive it over the iron. The paraffin wax melts and drips onto the snowboard. Apply evenly to the entire sliding surface.
Are you dripping? Now it’s time to do the magic – smooth the paraffin evenly over the surface. We put the iron on and distribute the paraffin with smooth movements. Try not to leave the iron in one place for a long time, you can ruin the snowboard.
The paraffin is applied, leave the board or skis for 2-3 hours so that it is well absorbed and cooled.
The next step is to remove excess paraffin from the surface. For this we need a “cycle” in special stores they are sold from 350r. Usually made of plexiglass. At home, the triangle ruler will save us.
With its help, we evenly remove the excess layer of paraffin. Watch the video.
Any excess wax removed, it’s time to polish our sliding surface. We take a sponge for washing dishes and rub with paraffin. Watch the video, everything is clear.
We use both the rough and soft parts of the sponge. We enjoy the result.
