Zugspitze ski resort

The highest of emotions for pleasure skiers

Germany’s highest ski resort attracts visitors with 20 kilometres of slopes with guaranteed snow, an extra-long season from mid-November to the start of May and a wide range of places to eat and drink. The fact that the sun also shines a lot on the 2,600-m-high Zugspitz Plateau is the icing on the cake for pleasure-seekers.

There’s a reason the Zugspitze is known as the “Top of Winter Sport”. Even the journey to the inviting slopes of natural snow is a spectacle. With the 90-year-old cogwheel train, winter sports fans can comfortably get through the tunnel directly to the ski resort on the Zugspitz Plateau. Those who prefer it ultra-modern can take the Cable car Zugspitze up to the 2,962 m high summit. After a stopover with a sensational panoramic view of 400 Alpine peaks, it takes just a few minutes from the summit station to the ski resort on the Zugspitz Plateau by taking the Gletscherbahn cable car.

Glacier ski resort

Thanks to its enviable altitude between 2,000 and 2,700 metres, skiers and snowboarders can carve on perfectly groomed slopes of natural snow here from mid-November until 1st May. The slopes are often above the clouds, while the valley below disappears in fog. The easy and moderate downhill runs are nice and wide on the mountain flanks, which makes them perfect for beginners and families, as well as for advanced snowboarders and sporty carving fans.

Perfectly refuelled on the ski slope

When it’s time for a boost or a coffee break, there are several outstanding options where it’s worth removing your skis. Depending on personal preference, visitors can indulge in fresh regional and international cuisine in the self-service Sonnalpin restaurant, the á-la-carte Gletschergarten restaurant on the Zugspitze glacier, or the new summit restaurant Panorama 2962 on the Zugspitze summit. The different areas of Panorama 2962 create a cosy ambience, whether for an espresso, a snack or a tasteful gourmet menu, always garnished with exclusive mountain views.

Equipment on hand

If you’ve travelled light, you can rent one of the perfectly prepared ski and snowboard models from the Zugspitze ski rental right in the resort. The Twin ticket is recommended to get the most out of the variety of slopes around Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This 2-day ski pass includes one ski day each on the Zugspitze and in the Garmisch-Classic ski resort, combining all the highlights that have made the legendary reputation of this winter sports destination.
