Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area welcomes you every winter. You will be able to tackle the iconic face of Bellevarde while having a magnificent view of the Alps and the village down below. Do you prefer ski touring? Find our 2 marked and secure areas as well as splendid off-piste, accessible with ski schools and independent instructors.

Speaking of the Face de Bellevarde brings to mind the important races that have taken place here. These include the  men’s skiing events at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, the Alpine Skiing World Championships in 2009 and also the Critérium de la 1ère Neige which each winter brings together the world’s top skiers.

Our advice: after a short warm-up, La Face is best tackled first thing in the morning when it has been freshly groomed. It’s a real delight, but be aware that this run is only suitable for skiers who’ve reached a competent level of expertise. It’s most definitely not for beginners or low intermediates.

When we talk about snow guarantee, we think of “Val d’Isère”, and rightly so, for several reasons:

  • The altitude, of course, which plays a major role. The higher you are, the more precipitation there is in the form of snow rather than rain, and the less pronounced the melting. Operating between 1800m and more than 3000m also ensures the necessary temperatures required to produce snow.
  • The Val d’Isère ski area is equipped with high-level snow guns that cover more than 65km of slopes. This provides additional assurance of being able to ski from November to April or May.
  • The diversity of exposures of the slopes, especially in the North, not only helps retain the snow as much as possible, but also ensures its quality.
  • Finally, the proximity to the Italian border means it can benefit from exceptional and very localised snowfall: this is the phenomenon of the return from the East.
